Women's Golf Travels To Indy For Mac
9, 2015 DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women’s golf team closes out the fall portion of its schedule when it travels to Noblesville, Ind. For the 2015 Fall Preview at Purgatory Golf Club Sunday. “The fall’s been good for us,” said NIU head coach. “Coming off of Ball State, and heading into this tournament, we have a lot of confidence going in. We’ll get to look at a lot of MAC schools, which will be nice.” NIU will be a part of a 13-team field consisting of eight other Mid-American Conference teams including, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan. Joining the nine MAC schools will be Cleveland State, UIC, Indiana State and Youngstown State.

The Huskies enter play Sunday following a strong showing at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State, where NIU finished third. Freshmen finished tied for fourth with a school-record 218, firing a career-low 70 in the second round. In fact, all five Huskies turned in scores of 80 or lower in all 15 rounds turned in by NIU. “Brielle has done well so far this year,” she said. “We knew she was going to come in and be a big contributor, with all of our freshmen. We knew that was going to happen. We definitely want to keep her rolling and get everyone else rolling as well.
When everyone’s clicking there’s some crazy stuff that we like to see.” This weekend’s tournament gives the Huskies a look at the course for the 2016 MAC Women’s Golf Championships in April, and another look at conference competition. This year, NIU has faced off against Bowling Green three times, Ball State and Ohio twice, and Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. While that wasn’t the intention going into the season, this year’s schedule has allowed NIU see its conference foes a bit more this year. “In the fall, you try to typically stay close to home so there, so there isn’t a lot of travel,” Kester said. “It just so happens we’ve seen more MAC teams because it’s more toward their home bases.
Bowling Green, Ohio and Ball State are teams we’ve seen all fall. It’s going to be nice to see Toledo. It’s going to be nice to see Akron again.” The Huskies will play 36 holes on Sunday, Oct. 11 with a shotgun start set for 7:30 a.m. NIU will conclude competition on Monday, Oct. 12 with a single round, which will begin at 8 am CT.
